Rwanda is one of the smallest countries on the African mainland located in the heart of Central and East Africa with easy access to bordering countries of Uganda, Tanzania, and Kenya. It is much smaller country than Uganda so lends itself better to a short trip in combination with a safari or beach stay elsewhere in East Africa. Dubbed as “the land of a thousand hills”, Rwanda is home of the Mountain Gorilla thus, making Gorilla Trekking as well as Golden Monkey Tracking its prime safari activities.

Rwanda has more than twice the number of habituated mountain gorilla groups than Uganda and so permits are generally more easily available. The Volcanoes National Park where these creatures are best spotted is only two hours' drive from Kigali and the international airport. Most tourists combine a safari in Rwanda with Uganda as it is possible to start in either countries and end in the other. If time is not an issue, a Gorilla Trekking excursion combines really well with a safari on the open plains of the Masai Mara in Kenya or Serengeti in Tanzania. When in Kigali, the capital of Rwanda, a city tour to see the famous Memorial Genocide site among several others is not to be missed.
